5 Useful Tips to Own your Fall Skincare Routine
Return of the #PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) marks the beginning of Fall and also the inevitable search for warmth and comfort against the cooler temperatures. It is getting colder especially in the mornings and evenings and I’m noticing my current skincare routine is just not cutting it. The constant need to moisturize, itchiness and chapped lips are the telling signs that its time hype up the game. Facing the reality that I’m not in the humid Nairobi climate anymore, or the scorching heat of the Alberta summer sun is settling in. As summer turns to fall, your skincare routine needs to change as well. Discover how you can easily transition your daily skincare routine as we enter autumn.
Let’s remind ourselves of the function of the skin:
-Elimination
-Protection
-Temperature Regulation
Our skin is highly sensitive to environmental factors such as the summer’s extreme heat and humidity, the chill in the winter and even indoor temperature adjustments. All these factors contribute to how our skin feels and reacts.
In the summer months, we expose our skin to heat from the sun, which over time reduces skin elasticity accelerating aging which is visible in the form of wrinkles and fine lines. Prolonged sun exposure may also damage skin cells. During the ups and downs of spring and fall, skin takes a brutal hit as it tries to adapt to the swaying environment. Free radicals which are unstable molecules can cause cell damage in our bodies.
Moisture content in the air is critical in maintaining skin suppleness. Notice the difference when you travel to a tropical climate or visit a dry and arid region. Fluctuations in moisture require different methods of care. Welcome the changing season with a fresh skincare ritual update, your skin will love you back.
Here are 5 tips to keep your skin glowing this Fall:
1. Invest in an oil-based cleanser - avoid alcohol-based products which will strip your skin of moisture.
Limit to washing twice a day, once in the morning, before bed and after sweating heavily. A great multi-use cleanser and moisturizer combo is the Ellie Bianca Naked Body Oil. Lightweight, gentle and easily penetrates the layers of the skin to pull out impurities within the pores and cleanse with the added antiseptic properties of some of the ingredients in the formulation. Leave it on the skin for a moment then rinse with luke-warm water and re-apply Naked Body Oil as a daily facial moisturizer. In the evening use the Luxe Glow Serum and allow for overnight skin cell regeneration.
2. Exfoliate once a week.
Try this easy DIY Exfoliating scrub at home:
